Atomos Saxophone Quartet

(2016 )

The Atomos Saxophone Quartet was founded in 2016 by Arvydas Kazlauskas, one of the most professional and creatively curious saxophonists in Latvia. The other ensemble members are among the best saxophonists of the new generation: Aigars Raumanis, Roberts Martini and Rūdolfs Pēteris Rubenis.
In Ancient Greek, the quartet’s name (άτομος) denotes such qualities as individuality and indivisibility, and the musicians wish to embody these qualities in the ensemble’s ideological essence. Atomos is interested in classical values as well as completely new influences, willingly experimenting and responding to creative challenges both in music and across artistic genres.
In its concert programmes, the ensemble also performs its own arrangements and adaptations of music. Atomos has collaborated with Lithuania’s St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, the Latvian National Armed Forces Army Orchestra, the mixed choir of the Riga Cathedral Choir School, percussionist Ernest Mediņš, the “Ave Sol” Riga Chamber Choir, the Putni vocal ensemble and poet Inga Gaile. It has participated in the Saxophonia festival, the Balvi Chamber Music Festival and the Sansusī alternative chamber music festival and has held concerts at Latvian Radio Studio 1, the “Gors” Embassy of Latgale, Riga Cathedral and elsewhere in Latvia and Lithuania.
