Bruoli i Muosys

In the group Bruoli i Muosys (meaning ‘brothers and sisters’), young musicians from the Latgale  region combine a feel for Latgalian traditions with free-flowing jazzy improvisations. In their music,  tradition is not a mere ornament or embellishment that attracts attention; instead, it is a funda mental element of existence that is felt and lived in the depths of the soul. 

Bruoli i Muosys is a Latgalian ethno-jazz ensemble that combines the energy of youth, the free dom of jazz and the lively presence of traditional music. The music sounds Latgalian – that is,  confident and fresh yet at the same time rooted – and presents a sound in which the intimacy and  substance of folk melodies meet the expressiveness of jazz. 

The group was founded in late 2023 at the Latgale Secondary School of Music and Art to partici pate in the Guoyu pa Jazz international ethno-jazz festival. Bruoli i Muosys quickly became a cre ative ensemble with a strong identity and a common goal, namely, to create a contemporary Lat galian sound. The group’s repertoire includes original compositions as well as interpretations of folk songs, which it does not view as historical exhibits but instead as a living, breathing part of  culture with the capacity to change and evolve. With their debut album, Na pādejais (meaning ‘not  the last’), Bruoli i Muosys confirm that this is not the final word – it is the beginning of a new gen eration’s view of Latgalian music.
