Sun Horse

Sun Horse is a musical duo that performs historically accurate folk songs with a mix of traditional  and electronic instruments. The sun is a central theme in Latvian rituals and folklore dating back  to pagan times. The name Sun Horse is derived from an ancient Livonian symbol depicting a  horse that escorts the Sun on her way through the universe. As a new entry in the folktronic  genre, Sun Horse focuses more on the ‘lore’ than the ‘folk’ aspect of folklore. 

Eli Ellere has dedicated many years to learning traditional singing and Latvian folklore.  They adopt authentic singing approaches based on historical transcriptions and recordings and  play traditional flute instruments. Jachin Pousson, a drummer and composer based permanently  in Riga, plays several percussion instruments and uses analogue synths and software to add  beats and ambient layers to complement Ellere’s vocals and lyrics. Together, the musicians  arrange these elements over modern electronic music structures, always seeking for new con texts in which to harmoniously fuse ancient folklore with futuristic sound palettes.
