Andris Arnicāns

Plays the Principal Bassoon in the Latvian National Symphony orchestra since 1996.
He graduated from the E. Darzins Music School in 1971, the P. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and post-graduate school in 1979. He has honed his professional skills in such illustrious institutions as the USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra under G. Rozhdestvensky (1982-1988) and the Russian State Academic Symphony Orchestra under Y. Svetlanov (1988-1996); from 1975 till 1984 he has been a member of the Sviatoslav Richter Ensemble.
A. Arnicāns has actively participated in various international competitions (Prague Spring, 1974, 1977, in Vlashokovitze, 1976). Many composers have dedicated works to A.. Arnicāns (P. Dambis, J. Ķepitis, E. Straume, A. Altmanis, A. Espajs, S. Berinsky, R. Kangro, and others). He has made many recordings for the radio in Riga and in Moscow. He has made records with piano, with orchestra and as soloist.
Andris Arnicāns is the chairman of the LNSO Board of Principal Musicians, and is a Professor at the J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music.
