Edgars Cīrulis

Edgars Cīrulis is a Latvian composer, pianist, improviser, and arranger. He studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg. His main genres are contemporary music and jazz. In 2019, in cooperation with musicians from Latvia, Denmark, Italy, and the United States, he released a storybook and record titled Aisma. He is also an active member of the Equanimity Trio. Cīrulis has performed with Mark Dresser, Marius Ungureanu, Jesper Løvdal, Kenneth Dahl Knudsen, Rokas Zubovas, and Ahto Abner, among others. He has also performed with the Kenneth Dahl Knudsen Orchestra, the UNIT and Skagerrak ensembles, and at the Saulkrasti Jazz, Rīgas Ritmi, and Baltic Breeze festivals as well as Den Blå Festival and the Festival of the Centennial Nations’ Capitals. Cīrulis has studied with Andris Dzenītis, Raimonds Petrauskis, Soren Moller, Dave Berkman, Liudas Mockūnas, and others. In 2020, he received a nomination for the Latvian Grand Music Award for new artist of the year.
