Guntars Freibergs began his study of percussion with teacher Larisa Puzule at the Jānis Cimze Valka College of Music, and later at the Emīls Dārziņš College of Music with Dzintra Knābe. After success at the Nutcracker international television competition in Moscow, Freibergs was invited to study at the Moscow Central School of Music, where he studied with Mark Pekarsky (2005 – 2006). As of 2007, the young percussionist is studying in France – at the Strasbourg Conservatory of Music with Professor Emmanuel Séjourné (marimba, vibraphone), Professor Dennis Reidinger (timpani) and Professor Stephan Fougeroux (multi-percussion). He has also participated in master class with the legendary Keiko Abe, Momoko Kamija, Bogdan Bacanu, and Peter Sadlo. Guntars Freibergs has had success at many state competitions in Latvia, and has won awards at five international competitions (Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Italy). The young musician has performed in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Italy and France. As a soloist, he has performed with the Professional Wind Orchestra Rīga, the Moscow chamber orchestra Musica Viva, the Latvian National Opera Orchestra, and the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga.
