Gustavs Fridrihsons was born on January 3rd, 1976 in Riga, to the family of painter Kurts Fridrihsons. From 1983 to 1994, he studied at the Em. Dārziņš College of Music in the oboe class of Vilnis Pelnēns and the composition class of Jānis Porietis. From 1994 to 1996, he studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the composition department in the class of Pēteris Plakidis. From 1996 to 2005 he studied at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Freiburg in the oboe class of Heinz Holliger, the music theory class of Otfried Büsing, and the composition class of Cornelius Schwehr. At this time, he lives in Germany. He has received the Latvian Great Music Award 2008.
