Jānis Ruņģis

Jānis Ruņģis is one of the brightest jazz and free improvisation musicians of his generation in Latvia. His solo album «Yggdrasil» was recorded during a live session in Nurme’s church. The recording’s musical mood is created by the synthesis of the church’s organ, guitars, a Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Clavisimbalum, and various loop effects. This is the music, where the artist’s personal message is of utmost importance, while the Nurme church’s acoustics is one more instrument, which the artist uses to create his sound. «Less is more» is the motto for this recording. «Yggdrasil» fits perfectly within the «Jersika Records’» catalog of experimental music and enriches the European free improvisation scene with its original sound.
