Kārlis Auziņš

Kārlis Auziņš is a Latvian saxophonist working primarily in the realm of contemporary jazz and improvised music. He graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam as well as the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and is currently an active member of the European and Scandinavian jazz scenes. Auziņš is mostly known for projects such as Auziņš.Čudars.Arutyunyan, the Karlis Auzins Quartet, Mount Meander, the Keno Harriehausen Quartet, and Own Your Bones as well as his solo work, all of which have been documented in albums that have received much recognition from music critics around the world. Auziņš’ solo album was nominated for best jazz album of the year at the “Zelta Mikrofons” Annual Latvian Music Recording Industry Awards in 2020; the Baltic album by Auziņš.Čudars.Arutyunyan won that same prize in 2019. Among many others, Auziņš has played with such musicians as Carsten Dahl, Jakob Høyer, Artur Tuznik, Michael Moore, Achim Kaufmann, Emanuele Maniscalco (ECM), Frederik Lundin, and Clemens van der Feen, performing throughout Europe and Scandinavia.
