After graduating from the Latvian Academy of Music in 1960 and master classes with Prof. Ilya Josifov in Bulgaria, Zarins joins Latvian National Opera in 1961. Powerful in all registers and endowed with superlative acting talent, Zarins has mastered such testing roles as Radames, Othello, Peter Grimes, Tannhauser, Canio and Herman. Frequent guest at the Bolshoi Opera where his partners have been leading sopranos Yelena Obrazcova and Irina Archipova. A prolific concert singer as well, Zarin� has sung a wide variety of symphonic and chamber pieces, from classic to modern. Along with LNO, has performed in Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Canada, U.S.A., Holland and England. Mr. Zarins sang with a bright, forward sound... his diction and ability to communicate musically were superior (The New York Times, New York). ... only was his beautiful and powerful dramatic tenor very attractive, so were thw purity of intonation, musicality and devotion (Sovetskaja Muzika, Moscow).
