Rihards Zaļupe

Rihards has finished his percussion Master degree with assoc. prof. Edgars Saksons and his composition Master degree with prof. Juris Karlsons at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. Also he was Socrates Erasmus student at the Hochschule fur Musik Cologne with professor Carlos Tarcha. Rihards Zalupe studied marimba`s playing and Composition with world-famous Keiko Abe, also with Katarzyna Mycka, Robert Van Sice, Eric Sammut, Svet Sojanov.

Since 2006 R. Zalupe has been a percussionist in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, also as a lecturer in the J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. At the same year Rihards together with Oskas and Raimonds Petrauski creates Xylem TRIO.

Rihards Zalupe is an awarded Latvian composer, producer and percussionist. Versatility is what puts him on the cutting edge of academic music, as well as of the contemporary, being one of the enthusiastic new composers. His film scoring credits include “The Pagan King”, “OKI - In the middle of the ocean”.

​List of Zalupe’s academic works includes vast range of musical forms - symphonies, sacral music, solo pieces for orchestra, music for modern individual projects and various instruments.

As a percussionist Rihards Zalupe has been involved in performances covering all kinds of music genres – from classical/accademic to jazz/rock/electronic/house ect.

​​Rihards is able to draw on his extensive knowledge of classical forms and structures while everyday encounters popular, ethnic and electronic music – emerging a portrait of an artist for whom everything is possible.
