Tovijs Lifšics

Tovijs Lifšics since 1951 has been violinist soloist in Latvian Philharmonic, since 1967 he has been musician and conductor's assistant in Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, also the artistic leader and the chief conductor (1969–1993). Alongside active performing T. Lifšics turned himself to teaching. In 1950s–1960s he was teacher of the violin and the head of string instruments' department in Jelgava Music School and in Jāzeps Mediņš Music College. He has taught the violin in JVLMA (1966–1992). He was the director of the Wagner Hall of Latvian Philharmonic (1993–1997). Since 1997 he has lived in Germany. He has been awarded with the Meritorious Worker of Arts of Latvia (1976) and the People's Artist of Latvia honorary titles (1988), with the Three Star-Order (2005), Latvian Great Music Award (2011).
