Played the Principal Oboe in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (1969-2004). Studied oboe playing in Liepaja’s Music High School with Pavils Korsaks, later in the class of Ivans Krasnopjorovs in J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music, graduated in 1969. V. Pelnēns performed as a soloist with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Latvian Chamber orchestra as well as Lithuanian and Hungarian chamber orchestras both in Latvia and abroad. He has been a member of the woodwind quintet of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra for many years. V. Pelnēns has been taking part in the Forum of double reed instruments in Frankfurt and Forum of the oboe playing teachers and students of European institutions of highest musical education.
