The melodic lines, harmonies, and rhythm of Cantiga draw their influence from identifiable Spanish
flamenco folk styles. The second composition, the finely nuanced Arabesco, employs two Arabic tonal
modes loosely woven into the musical texture. These evocative, melancholic melodic configurations with
middle-eastern intonations intermittently coalesce into a heightened sense of intense expressivity.
