"Rūķīši un mežavecis" (The Dwarves and the Old Man of the Forest)

Lyrics by Vilis Pludonis (pseudonym of Vilis Lejnieks, 1874–1940). He was a master of ballad and long poem, and well-known also for his lyric poetry, including his verse for children. This is his most popular children's poem (first published 1913). The song was written in 1924 (first published 1924), and represents the romantic-psychological line in the choral ballads of Vītols. It received an award at the 6th Latvian National Song Festival in 1926.
