Arnis Mednis

Arnis Mednis is a pianist, singer, producer and composer who has been part of the Latvian pop music scene since the 1980s. Back then, his group Odis was one of the few in Latvia to begin playing soul and funk music. Mednis characterises his creative personality as full of joy and experimentation. He has also run a jazz club in Riga and represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001.
While recuperating from a sudden illness, Mednis developed a heightened interest in ancient Latvian history. Inspired by the Latvian centenary in 2018, he created the Tālavas taurētājs concert performance based on the tale of a folk hero, and in 2019 he released the album Mana tautasdziesma, on which various soloists perform some of Mednis’ favourite folk songs. “I love making great cocktails,” he says, playfully describing his creative process and work.
