A lot of exciting news and concerts at the Woodwind Symposium

7. October, 2022

This year Riga Woodwind Symposium offers several news:
It is organized as ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Program – in addition to the usual masterclasses and concerts participants will be offered several interesting online presentations: German flutist Renate Greiss-Armin tells about theoretic and practical aspects regarding the preparation for the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra auditions; oboe profesor from Zurich Louise Pellerin whose student Amanda Tauriņa recently started her career at the famous Gewandhouse orchestra will speak about the necessity of the PLAN on the road to success; Philippe Geiss, saxophone professor and composer from Strasbourg, will share his thoughts about the combination of the performer/composer/teacher career, but his doctoral student Olivier Duverger-Houpert will present his original comprovisation method (synthesis of the composition and performance in contemporary music); Polish clarinetist Arkadiusz Adamski will present his unique interactive school of clarinet performance “Rainbow Clarinet”  for the youngest generation.

Another news – this year our guests will be not only guest profesors, but also students from Katowice, Strasbourg, Tallinn and Vilnius.

And third novelty – a special accent on the woodwind chamber music. Symposium concerts will offer both previously prepared ensembles and those prepared during the Symposium week – Mozart Serenade Es dur KV375 will be performed by woodwind octet under the artistic guidance of Peeter Sarapuu, but flute choir will perform Ian Clarke`s “Within” under the baton of Giedrius Gelgotas.

Symposium programme offers four concerts. Renate Greiss-Armin, Ilona Meija and Herta Hansena invite to the Small Guild hall on October 18; Philippe Geiss, Strasbourg Saxophone Quartet and Riga friends will welcome at the Great Hall of JVLMA on October 19, but Silesian Clarinet Quartet will present their performance in the same Great Hall on October 20. Everybody is kindly invited to the closing concert on October 21, 18.00.

Traditionally Symposium programme includes a visit to one of music schools in Latvia – this time it will be Ogre Music School, where Strasbourg Saxophone Quartet, Philippe Geiss and their Riga friends will offer their second concert and masterclasses.
