An international conference on the popular music culture of the last century will be held

The international scientific conference Schlager and popular (entertainment) music culture in the 1920s and 30s, organized by Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, will take place on February 2 and 3, 2023.

The conference is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Riga’s Tango King Oscar Strok (1893-1975). Researchers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Austria, Germany, Serbia and Hong Kong will participate in the conference with papers devoted to various issues of the history and aesthetics of schlager and popular music. The special guest of the conference will be Dmitri Dragilew, the representative of the promotional council of the Oscar Strock & Eddie Rosner Heritage Society (Germany).

The conference will take in person. Its organization is supported by project No. 1.1.1.5/18/I/001 - Development of International Cooperation Projects of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Research and Innovations.
