Boston Symphony Orchestra concert to be screened live next to Latvian National Opera

8. May, 2025

On Sunday, 11 May, a concert by conductor Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will take place at the Latvian National Opera, and it will be broadcast live in the opera square.

On 11 and 12 May, the Andrejs Žagars Foundation for Cultural Development presents for the first time in Rīga concerts by the world-renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of its Principal Conductor and Artistic Director Andris Nelsons. These concerts will be part of the BSO's European tour, organised by Konzertdirektion Schmid, dedicated to the works of Dmitri Shostakovich, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the composer's death.

Sandis Voldiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, said: "The live broadcast at the Latvian National Opera Square is a unique event - for the first time we will offer a world-class concert live to the widest audience in this way. It is a particular pleasure that this is happening at a time when the legendary Boston Symphony Orchestra is being conducted by the great Andris Nelsons, the former Chief Conductor of our Opera. This concert will not be broadcast live anywhere else, nor will it be recorded, so enjoy this special musical event in the blossoming Opera Square!"

The live broadcast will be free of charge for everyone.

A café will be open from 18:00 in the Opera Square.

Limited seating will be available for the convenience of the public, but spectators are invited to make themselves comfortable and bring folding chairs or blankets.
