On 23 September the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will go on a five-concert tour around Latvia, which will end on 14 October at 19:00 in Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars”. Together with violinist Daniils Bulajevs, under the direction of the conductor Andris Veismanis, the orchestra will also give concerts in Limbaži, Balvi, Jelgava and Talsi.
The encounter of the talented 18-year-old violinist Daniil Bulayev and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra on one stage is a long-awaited event. The last time they played music together was in Liepāja back in 2018, however, the violinist's mastery is growing day by day, and since that last encounter he was nominated for the Grand Music Award in the category “Young Artist of the Year” in 2020, he also participated in different festivals all around the world, obtaining greatest results in international competitions as well.
Daniil Bulayev has learned to play the violin in Nellija Sarkisjana's class at Emīls Dārziņš Music School. He chose this instrument at the age of four, inspired by Gidon Kremers’ performance, and already at the age of five he performed as a soloist with a chamber orchestra for the first time. Bulayev's performance together with the “Kremerata Baltica” orchestra in 2014, where “Blooming Jasmine” by Georgs Pelēcis was played, gained greater public attention.
Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and Daniil Bulayev will play Felix Mendelssohn's Violin concerto under the direction of the conductor Andris Veismanis.
Since the genius German composer had a harmonious and radiant personality, just like his music, one will not find despair and pain of the world in it. He was open about the fact that when composing his music pieces, he thought about a wide range of listeners, whose tastes he wanted to cultivate, so as to prevent them from admiring ostentatious virtuosity. When criticizing such compositions, which, according to him, “expose our poor ears to risk”, Mendelssohn was adamant: “Don't tell me that this is what the audience wants. I am also a part of the audience and I want the opposite”.
The Concerto for violin and orchestra in E minor proves it dramatically and is the opposite of those numerous opuses of empty brilliance created in the 19th century, Schumann once mocked about, saying that first of all their authors composed their masterly passages and only afterwards were concerned about filling in the rest of the piece.
The concert programme also includes the overture to one of the most popular operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – “The Marriage of Figaro” and the first symphonic work by Pyotr Tchaikovsky – the symphony “Winter Daydreams”.
The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will start its Latvian tour with a concert on 23 September at 19:00 at Limbaži Culture Center, followed by concerts on 24 September at 17:00 at Balvi Culture and Leisure Center, on 5 October at 19:00 at Jelgava Culture Center and on 13 October at 19:00 at Talsi Culture Hall, and the tour will end on 14 October in Liepāja Concert Hall "Lielais dzintars".
