Jurjānu Andrejs VII International Woodwind Competition at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music

On 9-16 October 2021, the Jurjānu Andrejs VII International Woodwind Competition will take place at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), Great Hall. A total of 73 young musicians from around the world, including 21 participants from Latvia, will compete in five categories (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone).

There will be three competition rounds judged by an international jury, including two members from Latvia: flutist Ilona Meija (Chair of the Jury), Associate Professor at the JVLMA, and saxophonist Artis Sīmanis, Professor at the JVLMA. The Jury will also include top musicians from other countries: flutist Renate Greiss-Armin (Germany), oboist Christian Schmitt (Germany), clarinetist Karel Dohnal (Czech Republic), bassoonist Peeter Sarapuu (Estonia), and saxophonist Christian Maurer (Austria).

Round 3 of the competition will be held in a concert format on 16 October at 16:00 at the Great Hall of the JVLMA, where participants will perform together with the Latvian State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and conductor Normunds Šnē. The winners will receive prize money in the total amount of several thousand euros.
