Latvian concert organizations open their seasons with various and spectacular performances

Latvian National Opera starts it’s 101st season

September 9 and 12 performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Traviata mark the opening of the 101st  season  of the Latvian National Opera. Conductor Normunds Vaicis will lead the performances with Jūlija Vasiljeva and Mihails Čuļpajevs in the leading roles.

Liepāja Organ Music Festival takes place  in churches and chapels of coastal city

Five performances from September 12 to 19 mark  the 19th edition of the festival.  Concerts will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, St. Joseph’s Cathedral and  Martin Luther’s  Church in Liepāja. Works by Einfelde, Dubra, Bach, Ķepītis, Kalējs, Saariaho, Bartulis, Navakas, Kabiljunas, Vasks, Ešenvalds, Plakidis, Prauliņš, Jermaks, Raumanis, Zariņš, Krilova-Bērziņa will be performed.

Concert series Kopā (Together) finishes it’s first season

Widely popular concert series that featured some of the best Latvian and international operatic talent like Aleksandrs Antoņenko, Marina Rebeka, Jānis Apeinis, Perrine Madoeuf and Sonora Vaice that took place this summer both as classical chamber music recitals as well as digital video broadcasts. The cycle’s last performance will take place on September 17 featuring a German bass Andreas Bauer Kanabas at the Small Guild concert hall. Works by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Dvorak, Verdi, Gounod, Von Weber will be performed.

Liepāja Symphony Orchestra opens it’s 140th season

Chief conductor Ginataras Rinkevičius will lead the the oldest symphony orchestra in the Baltic States in it’s concert season opening performance. Shostakovich’s  monumental 10th symphony will be complimented by  Chopin’s First piano concerto, Lukas Geniušas as soloist.

Youth choir Kamēr celebrates it’s 30th anniversary

September 12 performance joined by Sinfonietta Riga chamber orchestra (Normunds Šnē conducting)  at the Riga Cathedral marks the opening of the 30th season of Latvia’s most celebrated amateur choirs – Youth choir “Kamēr”.  The performance will feature world premieres by Rihards Dubra’s “Silence, Love and Light" and Jēkabs Jančevskis’ “Kā dziesmu teicot “ as well as “ Lux aeterna” by Pēteris Butāns.
