Latvian National Opera and Ballet starts ticket sales for autumn performances

25. April, 2023

On April 25th at 11:00 AM, The Latvian National Opera and Ballet will start ticket sales for performances in August, September, October, November, and December.

The new season will begin on August 18th with the ballet "Viy. The Nights of Horror". In August, you are also invited to attend other favourite productions, such as the ballets "At the blue Danube", "Dracula", and "Swan Lake", as well as the operas "La Cenerentola" and "Don Giovanni".

The first new production of the season will be Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Don Carlos", which will have its premiere on October 5th. The visually impressive staging of “Don Carlos”, created by the German director Claus Guth, with set design by Etienne Pluss and costume design by Petra Reinhardt, premiered at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples in the latter part of 2022. “Don Carlos” is one of Verdi's most ambitious operas. As such, it went through several revisions in both French and Italian during the composer's own lifetime. Verdi’s masterpiece will be performed in Italian at the Latvian National Opera. The Music Director of the production will be Pier Giorgio Morandi. The role of Philip II in the first three performances will be interpreted by the world-famous bass Günther Groissböck, whom our audience got to know in his solo concert last May. The main roles will be performed by Jūlija Vasiļjeva, Inna Kločko, Natalia Kutateladze, Artjoms Safronovs, Tadas Girininkas, Rinalds Kandalincevs, Jānis Apeinis, and others.

On November 10th, a new production premiere of the ballet "La fille mal gardée" is expected. This ballet is one of the most vibrant and joyous works of the English choreographer Frederick Ashton, which premiered at the Royal Ballet of London in 1960. The notable French choreographer Jean Dauberval's 1789 work served as a source of inspiration for Ashton’s ballet, with Louis Joseph Ferdinand Hérold’s music, arranged by John Lanchbery. This gleeful story of pastoral love continues to delight admirers of the refined art of ballet all around the world. This performance will delight classical ballet enthusiasts.

The concert "That’s Life..." on October 6th will be dedicated to the jubilee of mezzo-soprano Ilona Bagele. The legendary composer Kurt Weill's music will be performed in a cabaret style by Ilona Bagele and the musicians of the Latvian National Opera. The concert will take place in the Great Hall of the opera house with a lowered iron curtain.

On November 19th, soprano Inga Šļubovska invites listeners to her solo concert "Solveig in Cabaret" in the Dress Circle Hall. Together with pianist Ilze Ozoliņa, the artist will perform the vocal music of Latvian composer Jānis Ķepītis and cabaret songs by William Bolcom.

Tickets for the audience's favourite ballet performances of "The Nutcracker" are also available for purchase at the moment.
