Summer is filled with exciting and diverse musical events in Latvia. If you are visiting during the month of August, these are the events not to miss:
Latvian Voices A capella festival takes place in Valmiera from August 7 to 10 for the first time. An event not to miss is a concert on August 9 by the famous Swedish a capella ensemble The Real Group with Latvian bass singer Jānis Strazdiņš participating. Festival promisses to be a learning opportunity for aspiring ensembles and groups as The Real Group will be giving the masterclasses during the festival. More info here
The 22nd International Sacred Music festival kicks off with three world premieres by Baltic composers sung by festival's organizer State Choir "Latvija". Five concerts from August 10 to 24 will feature truly a wide range of sacred music - from French romanticism to jazz, gospel and contemporary works. Concerts will take place not only in Riga's famous venues such as Riga Cathedral (Dome) and St. John's Church but also in Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja. More info here
Liepāja Symphony Orchestra starts its 139th season with "Liepāja Summer" festival. Seven symphonic and chamber music concerts for varied tastes and age groups take place in LSO's residence Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja as well as in Rose Garden of Rundāle Castle. Festival takes place from July 27 to August 23. More info here
Latvian National Symphony Orchestra celebrates end of it's hot and colorful summer season with summer residence at the best of Latvia's concert halls - Gors in Rēzekne. "LNSO Vasarnīca" concerts, film performances and education projects take place over a very busy weekend from August 23 to August 25. Especially notable is a world premiere of Carion Tryptich by composers Britta Bystrom, Anders Nordentoft and Andris Dzenītis that will be performed by Carion Wind Quintet and LNSO. "Via Baltica" festival takes place in Liepāja and Kuldīga from August 7 and September 7. This year's program features not only chamber music concerts, but also discussions, theatrical performances and film sessions. More info here
