The culmination of the Latvian National Opera’s season – the Riga Opera Festival Gala Concert – will take place on June 20 at 19:00. This evening promises to be a vibrant musical event led by conductor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and director Elita Bukovska, featuring outstanding soloists, the Latvian National Opera Chorus, and Orchestra.
The concert will also be accessible to a wider audience beyond the walls of the Opera House: a video livestream will be provided on the square in front of the building, and a live audio broadcast will air on Latvijas Radio 3.
The concert’s main supporter is Citadele Bank, whose generous support has helped bring together a star-studded lineup, including Lithuanian opera star Vida Miknevičiūtė, world-renowned Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska, internationally acclaimed Latvian mezzo-soprano Zanda Švēde, celebrated Georgian baritone George Gagnidze, and the distinguished Georgian tenor Irakli Kakhidze. For the first time, the highly sought-after Armenian tenor Liparit Avetisyan will appear on the Latvian National Opera stage. The audience will also enjoy performances by brilliant young Latvian soloists Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone and Edgars Ošleja. The Latvian National Opera Chorus and Orchestra will perform under the baton of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.
The gala programme will include music by Giuseppe Verdi from the operas Nabucco, Macbeth, Il trovatore, Rigoletto, and La traviata. Works by Giacomo Puccini will feature excerpts from Madama Butterfly, Tosca, and Turandot. The music of Gaetano Donizetti will be represented by scenes from Linda di Chamounix and L’elisir d’amore. Also on the program: selections from Camille Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila, Antonín Dvořák’s Rusalka, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Pablo Sorozábal’s zarzuela La taberna del puerto, and operetta favorites from Franz Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe and Das Land des Lächelns.
