On December 2 at 6 p.m. in the "Great Amber" concert hall, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of chief conductor Guntis Kuzma will hold a concert together with the winner of the 16th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in 2022, Japanese rising star Hina Maeda.
At the competition, the Japanese violinist also received four additional special prizes: best performance of Wieniawski’s concerto; best performance of Wieniawski’s Caprice; best performance of a sonata and best performance of works by Ludwig van Beethoven or Johannes Brahms.
In Liepāja, Hina Maeda will play the Second Violin Concerto for violin and orchestra by the Jewish-born Polish violinist and composer Henrikas Weniawskis, which was composed in 1856 and is still one of the most popular violin concertos of the Romantic era, notable for its gorgeous and touching melodies and harmonies.
Hina Maeda was born in 2002 in Osaka and started playing the violin at the age of 4. She debuted with the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra at age 11 and since then she has performed with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and New Japan Philharmonic.
In 2023 Maeda has performances in over 20 countries, and 60 different locations, including recitals and solo appearances with orchestras in Tokyo and Osaka.
The concert program also includes Carl Maria von Weber's “Euryanthe” overture, Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphonic poem “Isle of the Dead” and Juris Karlson's “Mysterious Garden” (premiere).
The concert is a part of the official tour of the Laureates of the 16th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, organised by the Henryk Wieniawski Society in cooperation with the National Institute of Music and Dance, financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
