Young Cellists Invited to Participate in the International K. Davidov Cello Competition

In more than 20 years International K. Davidov Cello Competition has gained wide recognition both among Latvian young cellists and internationally. After a longer break, in 2025, from March 16 to 22 the 11th International K. Davidov Cello Competition will return to the birth place of K. Davidov - Kuldīga, a picturesque UNESCO world heritage town in western part of Latvia. The Final concert of the Competition will take place in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, Riga, and will be performed by Chamber orchestra "Sinfonietta Rīga" (conductor Normunds Šnē) and Competition laureates.

The competition is organized by Kuldiga District Municipality, E. Vīgners Kuldiga Music School and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

The Head of the Jury will be Kristīne Blaumane, principal cellist in London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most outstanding Latvian cellists. Jury members:  Francis Gouton, a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, conductor, and professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim; Monika Leskovar, winner of many prominent competition, worldwide performer and since 2017 an assistant professor at the Zagreb Academy of Music;  Kristaps Bergs, Latvian cellist and chamber musician, holds the principal Cello position in the Brussels Philharmonic and regularly works as a guest member with European Orchestras.
