Jauno Jāņu Orķestris - "Spēka elpa"

Jauno Jāņu Orķestris (JJO) is a Latvian band formed in 2012 that brings together musicians from different experiences and musical backgrounds. The group is known for its ability to combine traditional Latvian folk music with modern electronic and rock elements to create an unusual and exciting sound. JJO’s music is about enjoyment and adventure. All of the lyrics are in the style of Latvian folk songs, although some of them probably originated in the head of one particular musician in the band. The band also lets its imagination run wild musically, aiming to tell a story that has never been heard anywhere else. Alongside the creative vocalist (who has also composed music for films and theatre productions) and keyboardist Kaspars Tobis (an experienced electronic music artist), the band is joined by violinist Ieva Strode, who has developed her own personal musical and singing style by playing traditional Latvian dances.

JJO’s latest studio album, Deju Dziesmas (2024), focuses on music created for Latvian stage dance. “Spēka elpa” (The breath of strength) is one of the most powerful pieces in the collection, telling the story of a mythological tree. The folk text is combined with a pulsating groove and mesmerizing motifs to create a powerful, hypnotic atmosphere that invites listeners to dance and also delve into the song’s message.
